JMICAWE
contributes to WSAVA Animal Welfare guidelines
JMICAWE vet Heather Bacon recently travelled to Bangkok to
input into the development of the first World Small Animal Veterinary
Association Animal Welfare Guidelines. The WSAVA is the global organisation for
small animal vets and these guidelines will offer veterinary practitioners
around the world guidance on dealing with common animal welfare issues and
highlight the role and responsibilities of vets as advocates for good animal welfare.
“Vets have not always
fully engaged with their role of protecting and enhancing animal welfare,” said
Heather “Even in the UK and other developed countries this is still a
challenge, and for low income nations, the challenges are magnified. The WSAVA
guidelines will provide support for veterinary practitioners around the world
to engage with animal welfare issues.”
The animal welfare guidelines will be launched at the WSAVA
annual conference in 2018.
